Welcome to the Lycée Jeanne d’Arc – Saint Ivy

Presentation of the school

The Lycée Jeanne d'Arc - Saint Ivy is a high school located at the western tip of France in Brittany.

The town of Pontivy where it is located has 15,000 inhabitants. It is the heart of a catchment area of over 100,000 inhabitants. It is also called Napoleonville because Napoleon Bonaparte wanted to make it the capital of Brittany. Today, it still retains many traces of its glorious past, which dates back to the Middle Ages. The Rohan Family Castle, located near the Lycée, is a fine example of this period. Economic activity is very flourishing here. This is driven by the food industry with many related activities (maintenance, transport, logistics, trade, etc.). All this means that the unemployment rate in Pontivy is one of the lowest in the region. The well-preserved environment, the proximity of the Atlantic Ocean and the very mild climate offer particularly attractive living conditions. The culture is also very lively. Numerous shows and concerts punctuate the year and contribute to developing the attractiveness of Pontivy.

The school belongs to the Catholic private education network. It is linked to the French state by a contract of association. It welcomes all young people who wish to enrol, whatever their religion. Religious practice is offered to all but there is no obligation to participate.

Jeanne d'Arc - Saint Ivy has 1650 pupils and students aged between 15 and 20. Around 200 staff (teachers, administrative, technical and school life staff) are involved on a daily basis. In reference to the French school organisation, it’s a polyvalent lycée. It offers three categories of education up to the baccalaureate: general, technological and professional.

On the Jeanne d'Arc site, students in the general stream take classes in literature, mathematics, science, economics, philosophy and foreign languages. On the same site, those who attend the technological subjects have access to teaching based on business and organisation economics or on industrial techniques and sustainable development.

At Saint Ivy, the professional or vocational studies covers three different economic sectors: hotel and restaurant activities, commerce and industrial production. The general education lessons are complemented by activities in professional workshops and by periods of work experience in companies. The training restaurant, which is used to train cooks and waiters, is open to the public. It is considered one of the best restaurants in the region!

Finally, still at Saint Ivy, students can continue after the baccalaureate in two sectors: tourism and sales. These studies are also enriched by numerous periods of work experience in companies.

International openness is a strong dimension of the school's educational policy. A large number of partnerships have been developed in Europe and throughout the world. Cultural trips, work placements and exchanges between schools all contribute to fostering an awareness of belonging to a multicultural world and to developing a spirit of brotherhood between people in our young people.
